A hyperboloid of one sheet is a doubly ruled surface — it can be constructed entirely from straight lines. When parallel lines connecting two circles are twisted, they form this beautiful curved surface. Antoni Gaudí used this principle extensively in his architecture, as curved surfaces could be built using straight structural elements.
